WHY ENNIS?
On April 8th, 2024, North America will experience a total solar eclipse called the “Great North American Eclipse”. A total solar eclipse recurs at any given place only once every 360-410 years-truly once in a lifetime!
The eclipse will pass through 13 U.S. states so why is this so important to Ennis?
Texas is deemed the BEST place to view the eclipse because the state has the longest viewing time of totality, or the “point of greatest duration." Texas is also expected to have the best eclipse-day weather in the country.
There is a narrow path of totality and Ennis is directly on the center line meaning we will experience a longer duration of totality than our neighbors including Dallas, Waxahachie and Corsicana. This makes Ennis specifically one of the BEST places to experience the eclipse.

WHAT TO EXPECT
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth. When the Sun, Moon and Earth line up exactly the result is a total eclipse.
The diameter of the sun is 400 times larger than the moon, but the moon is coincidentally 400 times further away.
The eclipse causes a shadow to be cast on part of the Earth. There are two parts to this shadow: the umbra, where sunlight is blocked completely and the penumbra, where only some sunlight is blocked.
